When: May 2008 -   Leave on a Thu night. . Return on Tuesday evening.  5 days/5 nights.

   

Flight Info from Newark, NJ:    Note: You are responsible for your own flight arrangements but they must be within the group windows (TBD) to facilitate transportation to/from the airports in FL.

Thur eve , depart Newark, NJ or your location and arrive in Ft. Lauderdale/Miami Thu eve.

Tue mid day, depart Tampa, FL and arrive at your final destination in the late afternoon.

Days: Thursday evening, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday.

Cost: Approximately $400 - $600/person (includes airfare, van rental, gas, tolls and hotel, $50 service fee), Food, Fish, fishing license for collecting and other purchases NOT included in this estimate).  Hotel cost is cheaper if you share a room. Cost $10 - $15 for a FL state fishing license for collecting. Not needed if you don’t plan on collecting. Note: $50 service charge if you register by April 15th. After April 15th service charge will be $75.

Description: Join us on a tour of Florida’s Fish Farming industry on Florida’s east and west coast. In the past we have visited Aquatic plant farms, hatcheries and fish farms. Learn how the professionals do it. See where the pet store fish come from. Purchase fish from some of the fish farms and collect native fish through out the trip and bring them home.  We have collected over 20 different natives and introduced species on past trips.

Payment: If you are interested, I will need $200 deposit from you by April 15th.

Example Itinerary

Thursday: 

1.       Fly to Miami/Ft. Lauderdale

 

2.       Pick up Van

 

3.       Check into hotel

Friday: 

1.       Visit several farms including Jack Wattley’s Discus Hatchery.

 

2.       Spend the night.

Saturday:   

1.       Visit local fish farm/hatchery.

 

2.       Drive to Tampa, collecting along the way.

 

3.       Visit Ybor City for the nightlife.

Sunday: 

1.       Go native fish collecting.

 

2.       Visit Golden Pond Fish farm.

 

3.       Visit local fish farm or hobbyist breeder.

             

4.       Relax at hotel in the late afternoon and evening.

Monday:

1.       Visit local fish farms.

 

2.       Visit The University of FL Tropical Aquaculture Lab.

 

3.       Visit Don Conkel’s Fish farm

Tuesday: 

1.       Visit Florida Fish Farmer’s Association Store.

 

2.       Fly home.
